A Year by the River
September 2025

As I sit here looking at the collection of shots from my September trip to the Bronx River, I’m reminded of how far this photo project has come. At times, it flowed naturally and intuitively; at others, it felt uncertain, and had to shift due to unforeseen circumstances. Literally, along the path, new ideas emerged like the first set of fallen leaves.  My first Year by the River photography project has come full circle and in only a few months, just like the year, it's life cycle will be complete!

This project has truly mirrored the Bronx River itself—ebbing and flowing, just like life —and I’m grateful for where it has brought me.

When I finally felt ready to start this project, I sat down and spent a lot of time planning things out. I got very clear on the things I did not want to do and the things I did want to do.  But one thing I wasn't certain of was location.  I started the project by visiting multiple locations along the Bronx River but slowly narrowed it down to one specific area in Tuckahoe.  And I have come to really appreciate this one spot so much more now since studying it in this way and looking at the cycle of life on the Bronx River each month through a lens.

Each visit to the river has become a quiet collaboration between myself, the landscape, and the changing seasons.  I am excited to see what Autumn has in store for the Bronx River.
