Marvelous Meadows

There is something magical and mysterious about an open meadow.

Each summer I make it a point to visit one of my favorite meadows in Waccabuc, New York. And each trip is never a disappointment.

The sweet smell of wildflowers fill the air inviting a variety of butterflies, dragonflies and bees to dance freely amongst the wildflowers.

Tall grasses and blooms rustle in the breeze, invoking a sense of mystery - what animals may have visited this meadow during the quiet of night? And are there any watching me as I walk through their home?

Meadows are important habitats for a variety of birds, critters, animals and wildflowers.

A secret garden is found and tiny wonders abound.

When my legs have grown weary and it's time to turn around to head back to the car, a new perspective awaits, inviting further discovery.

This Story was inspired by a poem I was moved to write after visiting Pine Croft Meadow this summer. I use the word try because my poem writing skills are like that of a 2nd grader. But whatevs.
To the meadow I go
hoping to find peace and inspiration
The sun warms my skin
As I walk down the path
I stop captivated by the dancing butterflies
Unbothered by the world
And on I keep going
wondering what animals may have
wandered along the trails
hunting, traveling, in the quiet of the night.
the songs of the birds distract my thoughts
bringing me back to the inspiring landscape
And when it is time for my return
I become distracted by the bees flying amongst the wildflowers
Stalks and stems of life and beauty
who seem to give so effortlessly
my chariot awaits me at the bottom of the trail
and reluctantly satisfied I get in
And finally, if you are a landscape lover and enjoy seeing different places, check out my Story on Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania. These two photos were shot during a hike I took through their Meadow Gardens.
