December 2024 Edition

I'm just going to jump right into this blog post. It felt like the moment I turned 40, my body and mind began playing tricks on me.

✅  Night sweats - No fun. How annoying it is to wake up in a cold, wet sweat!

✅  Unexplained weight gain and the inability to lose the weight.... Yes, this girl likes to eat but the weight gain felt as is it was overnight and no matter what I did, or do, the weight will not move.

✅ Heightened anxiety, including panic attacks, which I never experienced before.

✅ Recurring visits from my old friend depression, who had been MIA since my 30s.

✅ New physical health issues, including liver & spleen problems.

✅ Insomnia, but "thankfully" only during that time of the month.

✅ Changes to my period.

My doctors treated each of the symptoms separately. I went back on anti-depressants and anti-anxiety meds. I took care of my liver and spleen by cutting out alcohol and watching the amount of shit I eat. And while some of the above symptoms were minimized, I still experience anxiety issues, inflammation, night sweats, insomnia, and weight gain.

I suffered for a few years until I decided to research my constellation of symptoms.

Put them all together and what do you have?

P E R I M E N O P A U S E

I have many female friends in their 40s and 50s who are going through the exact same thing as me. Well... maybe not exact, but close enough. That is why this month, I’m excited to share something that’s become a regular part of my routine—one supplement I’ve come to rely on each and every month to help alleviate my pms and perimenopause symptoms. Earlier in December I took some photos of my favorite little supplement for my portfolio, but December was such a busy month and this project went on the back burner for a few weeks. So it is now January and I am finally happy to share this and get it out of my head.

Solaray DIM Supreme

What it is and why I take it.....

(using photos I took and infographics I created in my home studio located in Yonkers, NY)

Bottle of Solaray DIM Supreme on a bed of broccoli. Label highlights diindolylmethane, broccoli seed extract, and women's health.

Diindolymethane, or the easier to pronounce abbreviation DIM, is a supplement that is sold in many health food, grocery stores and vitamin shops. A few months ago I started taking DIM regularly for the above perimenopause symptoms I experience. I do not take it everyday but let me tell you, it definitely helps me. And that is why I love it.

Below are two infographics I created in Canva. One discusses what DIM is and where it comes from. The other infographic illustrates the studied health benefits of DIM.

An infographic of a bottle of Solaray DIM Supreme in a bowl of broccoli with information about the science behind DIM

WebMd says that a typical adult woman obtains about 2-24mgs of DIM from diet.

Solaray's DIM Supreme contains 100mgs of Diindolymethane, 100mgs of broccoli seed extra (helps with detoxification and hormonal balance) and 40mgs of bioflavinoids (acts as anti-oxidants).

Besides these benefits, studies also show that DIM can support the liver’s detoxification process, eliminating harmful toxins from your system.

For now, whenever my PMS / peri-menopause scaries kick in, I take1 DIM pill a day until I feel balanced. Although it is not a cure-all, DIM definitely provides me with relief.

These supplements help me but I am not a doctor and cannot give you advice. So speak to your health care practioner(s) and if you are looking for natural remedies or supplements, do some research to determine if this or other supplements are right for you.

Not only did I want to share the benefit I find from DIM, my goal with the above infographics is to show small business and brands how professional product photography like this could be used in support of marketing and social media campaigns.

For example, I worked on creating the below infographic in Canva and in my opinion, their background removal tool worked really, really well. Above is the before photo and below is the infographic.

Pretty cool, right?

In today's visual world, it is very apparant that businesses need to have a cohesive catalog of crisp, clear images that can be used at any time for website design, in print ads, and of course, on social media.
